A's SEMI FINAL TRAGEDY
After securing the minor premiership and promotion to A2 for
08/09, the A’s hosted Brighton in their semi final. We got an
early bonus when Shep won the toss and batted first.
After losing a couple of early wickets, Stephen Burge and
Anthony Zappia consolidated before both being dismissed just
before tea. Steve Daniels and Barclay Matthews looked like
taking the game away from Brighton after tea when they put on 76
for the fifth wicket before Barclay was run out. This sparked a
mini collapse and at 8/169 after 59 overs we were in a bit of
trouble.
Clem Bennett and Adam Butcher batted for almost 18 overs,
putting on 38 valuable runs before we were all out for 207.
This was probably about 30 or 40 runs short of the par mark
given the conditions, but credit must be given to the Brighton
for sticking to their task in difficult conditions.
We approached day 2 with a great deal of confidence knowing that
a good bowling and fielding performance would be put Brighton
under a lot of pressure.
Unfortunately, the sprinklers that irrigate the centre wicket
area were activated some time early on Sunday morning. It
appears that the council had mistakenly activated the watering
system. This resulted in Brighton facing the unfair prospect of
having to bat on a wet wicket. As a consequence and in the
interest of fair play, the Ingle Farm club coach and A Grade
captain, Trevor Shepard, conceded the game to Brighton.
While it was a terrible way to end the season, congratulations
to all the A Grade players in securing the minor premiership and
promotion to A2.

We needed to beat Goodwood to ensure top spot and certain
promotion to A2 (Shepos aim from day 1). This was completed
against Goodwood, who needed to win to play finals. We lost the
toss and was sent in. After losing an early wicket we steadied
to be 1/51 on a deck seaming around a bit. We then lost some
wickets very steadily and found ourselves 7/138 in this total
S.Burge made a fine 69. Part of our success this season has been
our depth of batting and once again this proved true. Alfie and
Kells put on an unbeaten 71 including 25 runs off the last 2
overs. Alf finished 48no and Kells 38no. This set Goodwood 210
to win. Butch again took early wickets and we had Goodwood 4/60
and well on top. We kept taking wickets despite some sloppy
fielding. All the bowlers done their job and we knocked them
over for 151. Butch took 4 wickets, Kells and Cochrane took 2 a
piece.

In this drought how can we have a wash out? Every place on
there ground was dry apart from the pitch we were meant to be
playing on. Its been a tough year for the Bs and this was a must
win. Luke Madigan had been with the ball. Batting was a struggle
for most of the year. Dollery in his 4 games lead the way. The
Bs weren't to far away in most of their games but really failed
to score over 200 which would of won them more games. Thanks to
Troy Fountain for all his efforts and well done to the young
lads who had there 1st year in senior cricket and will be better
for it.

Good win by the C's, their 1st since about round 3 when they
were sitting on top of the ladder. This was a very hard year for
them after playing finals last year, losing half that side did
not help. The C's used a staggering 37 players for the season.
Wally and Richo made a few runs but we had to chase some big
scores. Thanks again to Wally for all his work.

Ds finished 6thabout a game out the 4. We knocked alot of the
sides above us and struggled against some of the weaker teams.
Marsh had a great year 400 runs and 16 wickets. The Ds spent a
lot of time on the training track which was most appreciated and
showed up in there performances. Well done to J.Noakes and
C.Boehm. All the best to the Juniors this week hope
you have some fun and get your rewards. A-Grade well done on
reaching the semi and finishing Minor Premiers lets got 1 better
now.
Thanks to all the players for there efforts this season, our
training attendances have been the best for many years and the
support on Thurs and Sat Nights has been fantastic and not gone
unnoticed. See you all on the weekend.
